Hello, my name is Jimmy Verner. I’m a semi-retired, long-time Texas attorney with substantial experience in business and corporate law. I counsel startups and small businesses, help them set up corporations or LLCs across the country and draft a variety of contracts and corporate documents.
I received my J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1979. After that, I spend a couple of years as a law clerk for a judge. Then, I went into general law practice. After a while, I focused on civil trial law, or in other words, lawsuits between businesses. In 1989, I became Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Not long after that, the banking crisis hit. So many businesses failed or filed for bankruptcy that there wan’t much civil trial work to be had. So I switched over to family law, mainly on the property side, where I found my business litigation experience to be a huge plus. In 1994, My friend Janet Brumley and I formed our own law firm where I worked until about 2017, then hung up my spurs, as we say here in Texas. Along the say, I became Board Certified in Family Law.
I was happy to return to business law, setting up startups and drafting contracts. I enjoy helping entrepreneurs get off to a good start. Again, my prior litigation experience helps because I know where to attack, and how to defend, lawsuits between businesses. I know where the soft points are. I’ve been helping entrepreneurs via the Web ever since.
Now and then I write a business blog post. You can sign up to receive them by filling in your information in the block on this page. You will also receive a fee copy of my eBook “Should Your Startup Become a Corporation or an LLC? Liabilities State & Federal Taxation & More!
I’m available to help with your business law needs. I usually work through the online platforms Upwork.com or LawClerk.con, but I will work directly with you if you like. You may contact me at Jimmy Verner.
